Two years ago I received a Pie in a Jar gift at CHA from a fellow artist (Liz), a thank you of sorts for a little bit of mentoring. This gift is special because it is a reminder 0f my growing-up days, hometown state of Kentucky. Therefore, I have been hesitant to use it. I like to see it in my baking pantry, happily smiling from the shelf with the candies, nuts and sugars.
However, as I prepared to pack for CHA this week in Anaheim, I kept thinking about what I would say if I ran into Liz, the creative gift giver and she asked how I liked the pie. Something inside me snapped and I decided to stop packing and head to the kitchen to make it! It is so awesome I simply must share.
It required a deep dish pie crust. I used my husband’s recipe because it is the best! Here it is in his beautiful handwriting. Yep, he wrote it out for me to put in my old fashioned recipe box. I skipped the divide in two part and used the whole thing.
The directions were easy as pie! HA HA HA!!!
It turned out really yummy and will be eaten quickly around this house.
I posted on Facebook when I put the pie in the oven and my little friend, Cash Browning-Smith, commented with a request to bring his mommy a piece to the CHA show. I know it won’t last but I decided to REFILL and reuse the jar with the ingredients required and take it to her. Here is the refilled jar. I truly love when I can reuse something so great! Maybe she will refill it and pass it on again.
