Yesterday when I was walking through Menards (a hardware store) waiting for my husband to pick out the specifically perfect part for a toilet repair, I ran across something new to me…masking PAPER. It was a little roll, a super cute mini roll (6 inches wide by 60 yards in length) of butcher type paper…perfect for doodling and creating and less than $2. I bought it. Well, actually he bought it. I would like to add that I find it really cool that I bought in Cedar Rapids, Iowa but it is made by Trimaco (which is located right by my Carolina home in Morrisville)!
My creative little art friend came over in the afternoon and together we wrote a letter on it that when completed measured 21 feet in length. She was ready to get started as fast as I could get the supplies off of the shelf and on to the table.
We started by dragging the paper the full length of the table and setting the roll on the floor so it wouldn’t get twisted up. The paper is really thin. And like most letters begin, she wrote, “Dear Jordan,”.
We wrote and doodled, colored and laughed while listening to Taylor Swift jamming from the iPad. We added jokes and math problems with answers and solutions several feet later. When she was done, we cut it leaving an extra foot for her to sign her closing.
We rolled up all TWENTY ONE feet to the size that fits into a toilet paper tube to mail it. Of course then we had to decorate the tube a little with some ribbon and a flower made from buttons and floral wire attached with hot glue from AdTech.
And it is off in the mail. Writing letters and doodling are healthy choices to create connection, express feelings and share love. It was fun! I say…DO IT!
