It’s Children’s Book Week! YIPPEE for children and for books…two of my favorite things being celebrated together. I would like to share my favorite books from when I was a child. I had lots of books that I LOVED but these were the ones that I read over and over again.
Ed Emberly’s Drawing Book of Animals inspired me to doodle and create. Little Witch stimulated my imagination. Cowslip helped my understand history and humanity. Mr. Pudgins made me laugh. Island of the Blue Dolphins taught me about courage. From The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler instilled a sense of adventure in me. Bridge to Terabithia taught me about friendship, imagination and grief.
I think that reading to children and reading as children has more value than can be measured. It creates so many fabulous opportunities, development and connections.
And this is the book that I wrote and illustrated, The Polkaplaid School on Turner Creek. It is based on real people in my life and a real teacher who made a big difference for a lot of children.
The little boy in the book named Jackson is one of my heroes. If you want a copy, let me know and I will mail you one.
I also have licensed art to Ollie Bollie Books for eight board books for little readers that out there in the marketplace. They were super fun to illustrate.
