For Father’s Day we decided to make Ryp a cape. He is the dad of our girls and the step-dad to the boys. So, we decided to do S dad which could be for Super Dad or Step Dad. It works for us.
We cut the cape from an old sheet and wrote the “S” and the word “dad” with Batik-Ez so that it would resist the dye when we colored the cape red. Then we waited until it was totally dry.
We decided to tie dye the bottom of the cape but painted the dye on the top because if we submerged the Batik EZ it might wash out before we had a chance to heat set the color. We used the color “scarlet”.
After it was all dyed, we wrapped it in plastic and microwaved it for 90 seconds to set it then rinsed it out in the kitchen sink and hung it to dry.
When it was dry we ironed it added a ribbon with Fabri-Tac so he could wear it.
My son’s friend tested it to make sure it worked!
He LOVES it. We love him. He is a SUPER Daddy and a SUPER Step-dad too.
Happy Making Things,
