I have been going to trade shows and conferences for a long long time. I keep going because I love the excitement of learning and communicating and being part of newness. Each time I prepare, there are different things I do to create successful experiences but one thing I always do is make a customized notebook to take along. Sometimes I make them for my roommates and colleagues too. This is my newest one for the Bloggy Conference next week!
Here are some of the notebooks from shows past. They are filled with notes, doodles, contacts and the likes. I keep them in my studio on a shelf for easy access to information. What happens at a conference can be magical in the transformation of one’s career. It is a time and place where the rest of the world seems somewhere else and I am immersed in learning and surrounded by others that are up to the same thing. The days go by quickly and I return home…with my notebook.
The contents for the notebook I just made for Bloggy Conference next week are pretty fun. I printed pages for note taking in sessions, pages for doodling and sketching new ideas and pages of labels with my contact information. The labels come in handy when there are forms to fill out for ordering things and such so that I don’t have to write everything out. I just stick a label on it. I added some pockets to the inside cover for business cards and a picture of my boys in the back.I created the cover this time on watercolor paper with a Sharpie outline and color filled with Tombow markers. I cut it out and mounted it on card stock. I love it! I added a few pages of watercolor paper to my notebook this time because if I doodle something magnificent while I am there, I might want to color it when I get home (or back to my room). Yes, I travel with my Tombow markers in a pink Viewtainer! I took the cover (front and back) and the contents (separated by colored card stock) to Office Max where they laminated the covers and spiral bound it together. I am ready! Look out Ohio, here I come. Oh yeah, and I made one for my travel mates, Katie Berry and Niki Meiners. This is Katie’s first conference and she is going to shine like the sweet berry that she is! I hope she loves it.Won’t they be surprised when they open it up and there is a photo of their beautiful children staring back at them.It is my belief that the more things I can do to promote myself as a brand at a trade show, the better. Each sheet of paper when torn out has my website and branding on it. Using the notebook in sessions and on the show floor always creates conversations about individuality and creativity.
Happy Learning, Being Prepared and Sharing,
