Quick and Easy T-Shirt Ghosts

A few weeks ago when Beth and I were traveling through six states and shopping antique stores, I found this little pair of PINK rubber boots and had to have them.  Little did I know then how adorable they would be in a Halloween decorating project for Quick and Easy T-Shirt Ghosts! I make a lot of things and usually love what I create but this project is one of my all time favorites. It is just so dang adorable. The Poly-Fil is the perfect way to turn t-shirts into ghosts and I am going to show you a couple different ways!

How to make Quick and Easy T-Shirt Ghosts with Boots

Materials Needed for Boot Ghosts

  • Pair of Boots
  • Foam
  • Wooden Skewers or Dowel Rods
  • Poly-Fil from Fairfield World
  • T-Shirt
  • Rubber Band
  • Scissors
  • Black Fabric for Eyes
  • Fabri-Fuse Glue from E6000

Directions to Make Boot Ghosts

Start by putting foam into the boots and then inserting the skewers to the foam.

Next, add a poof of Poly-Fil onto the skewers. If you want it to be contained, simply put it in a plastic bag first then stick it on the skewers. This would be a good idea if you are going to put your ghost outdoors.

To make the ghost, rubber band the bottom of a white t-shirt together then flip it inside out. Cut the bottom off of the t-shirt.  For larger ghosts, use larger sized t-shirts.

Add fabric eyes with Fabri-Fuse glue.

OUTDOOR TIP – If your boot ghosts are going to be outdoors on a porch, add rocks in the bottom to weight them down for winds and bad weather.

How To Involve Kids in DIY Projects

Do It Yourself projects are a great way to get the kids involved in making decorations. This gives them the opportunity to participate in what their environment looks and feels like – whether at home, school or camp. When kids have been included in the ideas and the creating, they have a sense of inclusion and importance, It is a way to have them learn that their vote counts.

If you are not aligned with your kid’s ideas for decorations because it’s not your look or style, don’t dismiss them. A good way to empower them to continue to express themselves is to allow them to have a large say in how they decorate their own space (bedroom or homework station). If you want to raise your kids to successfully be able to have a style of their own, it starts by giving them a say when they are little.
