One of our family traditions is to feed the reindeer “magic food” on Christmas Eve. We have been doing it with the kids since they were toddlers, sprinkling it on the lawn then running out the next morning to see if it’s gone. I make this “magic” my mixing together some top secret ingredients. Should I share it? Of course I should. That is the best thing I can thing to do for Day SEVEN of 30 Days of Christmas With Me, Laura (#30DaysOfChristmasWithMeLaura).
There are two ingredients…..drum roll…..birdseed and GLITTER (aka fairy barf). The more glitter, the better. Put it in a big bowl, stir it up and ta da…magic happens. I bag it up in tiny plastic bags then put those bags into a larger one with a paper reindeer ornament.
To make the paper ornaments, I cut solid brown paper into a head then add cut out antlers from black. I put them together with Glue Dots. If you are doing this with kids, it is a good idea to draw the outlines on white card stock so they can cut that out and use it to trace around.
For eyes I use a Sharpie then I add my favorite part…the button nose. I either use Laura Kelly’s Radical Red or Black Beauty buttons.
If you want to print the little insert cards that I use, here is a free printable that you can download. Please only use for personal use. Thanks!
There is another version that is edible…oatmeal and marshmallows. If you want to make this, it works great at and event. The kids who make it and take it home can mix it with hot water for a warm yummy snack. I love visiting the store in my historic downtown, The Rusty Bucket, and doing this with them each year.
Cheers to the MAGIC of Christmas,
