Here is a really fun project that the creatures who love your yard will appreciate. Whether the bird or the squirrels, some little wild critter will feel blessed that you create Christmas tree ornaments for them.
To make these beautiful ornaments for the outdoors, I mixed together 1 cup flour, 2/3 cup water, 4 T corn syrup and 5 cups of birdseed then pressed it between waxed paper and put cookie cutter in it. I pushed pieces of straws through them to create holes. When it was hard, 6 hours later, I took them apart. I like this mix from KAYTEE because it holds together well.
I dyed twine in Rit Dye to create colorful non-toxic decorative ways to hang the ornaments in the tree. I used the jar method for the dyeing and drying.
It worked great to tie through the holes and add colorful elements to the ornaments. I really love the way they look in the woods.
Happy creating this holiday season. Don’t forget to spread some of that love into the wild!
