For my doll project on the blog at Doll Diaries today I made a Santa Hat to fit an American Girl doll using felt. How cute is this…
I had no idea that creating doll sized holiday head fashion would be so much fun. How cute are these?
You will need the following materials to make these hats:
- Red Felt
- Embroidery Floss (Coats and Clark)
- Ad-tech Hot Glue
- Optional (Buttons, Pom Poms, Glitter)
To make the reindeer ears, you just need to cut four antlers from brown felt and then hot glue two of them together with a piece of wire in between the pieces…twice. Make sure the wire goes to the BOTTOM of the antler. Cut a piece of felt 8 inches long and 2 inches wide then glue a piece of ribbon that is 16 inches long to the center. Fold the sides over and glue the ribbon inside then glue on your antlers. You can add buttons or glitter of you want.
The long ribbon that hangs out either end is what you use to tie it to the doll’s head.
If you want to make the elf hat, you will need a full piece of red felt folded in half. Draw two lines from the center of the folded size to the corners and then cut on the lines leaving it attached at the fold. Sew the sides shut with red embroidery floss then flip it inside out to hide the stitching. Add pom poms (either store bought or made from yarn) to the hat.
The hat will fit perfectly on your American Girl doll’s head.
