Happy New Year 2014! With the new year comes a new American Girl Doll of the Year and this year we are all so excited about Isabelle! Isabelle was announced on Good Morning America yesterday and is now available to buy as of today, New Year’s Day! Isabelle is a dancer, a ballet dancer, so to honor her launch I created a ballet tutu with some beautiful feather trim that I have been saving for something special. I got it and M & J Trim in NYC and it is gorgeous!
This is how I made it. I created a dye bath using Rit Dye in Petal Pink in a baking dish. I cut the length of trim that I would need to go around the doll’s waist plus an inch.
I let the feather trim soak for about 15 minutes as the feathers were resistant to absorbing liquid. Then I took the trim out, patted it with paper towels and hung it to dry. To hook it around her waist, I used a pink paperclip.
Olivia, a Springfield Doll that is the same size as the American Girl dolls, looks lovely dressed to rehearse for the ballet.
If you like the doll sized dance studio, you can find out how I made it on my post for Doll Diaries. Over there you can see the beautiful Maria dancing in it as well.
If you like to enter a giveaway to win the ballet clothing from Springfield Dolls and a craft stash of pink ballet fun, you can enter here.
I hope 2014 is filled with dancing, with overcoming obstacles and with lots of joy!
