Doodling with Elmer’s School Glue to create this DIY Rit Dyed throw pillow was a blast! A little doodling, a little dyeing, a little stitching and wah-lah…a masterpiece was created.
Here is how I did it.
First I doodled the heart and the word “love” with the glue on the pre-sewn canvas pillow from Canvas Corp. I let it dry completely. I also doodled some circles on the fringe (also from Canvas Corp).
When it was totally dry, I dip dyed the pillow in Rit Dye (Petal Pink) using the stove top method. I rinsed it thoroughly. Then I used a paint brush to paint Rit Dye (Cherry Red) in the heart. I also used Cherry Red to dye the entire fringe in a dye bath in a jar that I heated in the microwave.
The dye was really thick on the heart so I used a paper towel to dab it. I actually really like the paper towel too. 🙂
I put the dyed fringe on a pillow that goes with our couch. Before I could stitch it, Piper decided she wanted it. She is so stinkin’ adorable. I am in puppy love! She wore it to the dog park.
Being the Resident Designer for Rit Dye is an honor. However, I am aware that people are dyeing all over the world in lots of ways and fully intend to support creativity through dyeing however that might look. If you used another brand and love to create things, I still love you bunches!
