There are sooooo many great stories for kids at Christmastime and I a happy to share one of my favorites, Paddington’s Magical Christmas. I love Paddington and his kind, genuine little bear heart. I received this book in 1993 from my mom as a gift for me and my students, along with a stuffed animal Paddington that I still get out every Christmas. I was teaching second grade that year and it was quite the hit!
The story is about Paddington’s confusion over the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and his not understand where the present from the true love are being hidden. Everyone is singing about receiving four calling birds, three french hens, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree but they keep disappearing before Paddington can even catch a glimpse. It is written with such sweetness and it ends with a fabulous surprise at Windsor Gardens. These are my favorite pictures. Paddington is searching for the tree and the partridge.
I miss my mom my every single day since her death in 2003 but things like this remind me that love is eternal. The gift of a book with a written message lives on and on and on. It makes me happy every year to find it in the Christmas box of decorations.
Paddington is written by Michael Bond and while this book is out of print, it can be found on used book sites. Paddington is coming to the big screen in January for the first time. You can follow along on Facebook and keep up with the news!
