I often walk away from reading a book or viewing a movie with a new lesson (or lots of lessons). The Book of Life is filled with lessons that reach deep inside to the raw parts of me and make me think about life, death and relationships. The quote “Don’t jump into magic waterfalls.” really landed deep. Manolo’s mom *(Carmen Sanchez) jumped. She didn’t stop to consider. There are so many times in life that I have “jumped” for my sons into situations to support them, protect them and be there for them…without thinking first. There are lessons all over the place in life. This quote from the Candle Maker makes me think…because although he is A god (not my God) and his words are meaningful….when it comes to being a mom they mean sometimes nothing.
We saw the movie (The Book Of Life) before it hit the theaters in a sneak preview party event and fell in love with the characters and the story. We went back several times to see it on the big screen as a family.
I wrote a sponsored blog post for World Market sharing some of the great things you could buy to celebrate the movie. I love Maria’s pet pig (Chuy) so I made goodie boxes using his stamp.
Jordan dressed up like La Muerte for Halloween.
Zoe got the replica of Manolo’s guitar for Christmas. Jordan got the soundtrack. I listen to it while I create in my studio when I am not chilling with Mindy Gledhill. The movie came out yesterday on Blu-Ray and last night I watched it alone in my studio while I was doing some design work. Truth, I wanted to listen to the music and laugh at the funny parts. However, when they are talking to the Candle Maker and Manolo’s mother jumps into the magic waterfall without thinking or asking (just to help her son’s cause), I stopped what I was doing and watched 100%. I would do the same thing for my boys…either of them and both of them. I love right after they have all three jumped when the Candle Maker says…
I think that Ice Cube totally rocked (not rapped) the part. I love what he had to say about it too. ““I thought it was important to get this message across to people who don’t celebrate the Day of the Dead,” Cube continues. “This is the reason you do movies, to entertain, to inspire and teach. To me it was nothing but an all around win.”
I decided to get my crafty on and paper craft the Candle Maker. Here it is.
Happy Living Every Day to the Fullest. Three cheers to all the moms out there who would also jump straight into the magic waterfall for their son.
