Learning about creating with Duncan Ceramics is such a fun journey! Here are the steps that I used to create this ceramic platter for displaying our Girl Scout cookies at sales booths this season. Everyone loves them! I have had tons of requests to make them for people so I thought I would share how I did it here and send them all in to their local studios to create on their own.
First step, get your supplies together and organized.
To get started, you will need a cutout of the Girl Scout emblem that will act as a reverse stencil. I got mine wet to have it stick to the bisque while I painted the platter. I drew hearts with a pencil then painted green around the emblem and the hearts. I peeled of the emblem paper and painted that area in in a darker green. I added dots with the end of a dowel then filled in the hearts with French Dimensions.
I let it all dry then added my words by painting with black. All of the underglazes that I used were Concepts from Duncan. I glazed it and fired it in my amazing Skutt kiln and Ta Da!
I gave it to my husband. He is Zoe’s cookie dad for her troop. Of course, he loves it. I made the brown one for Jordan’s troop too. Her leader was so excited and said she planned to use it all year for snacks at meetings. How special!
