This is the story of my bowl for Zing. When I create things, they often times are inspired but those I love. This is one of those things. Not very long ago, I read the saddest post on Facebook and cried. My dear friend Tammy lost her beloved dog, Cash! It was unexpected and devastating. Cash wasn’t just the traditional amazing and awesome pet and companion. Cash was a unconditional source of love, of healing and of service. I had the honor of knowing Cash and feeling the bond he shared with Tammy. It was beautiful. They often went on outings to create healing and joy in nursing homes, hospitals and schools. The power of Cash’s presence was transforming. My heart has been breaking for Tammy over and over again. There are no words. And so I prayed. This is a picture from when Tammy and Cash visited with me and my friends while we were in Ohio in 2013.
I talked to Tammy last week and she shared something with me that reminded me of the gift of faith. Living far away was a 5 month old puppy named Zing (a cousin of Cash’s even) that would soon be coming home to be her new little girl. I cried on the phone. I was out of town but as soon as I got home, I painted this! To me it is imperfectly perfect. I am by no means a ceramics expert but I am an expert and expressing myself through art.
This is how I made it (in pictures)…
And then I glazed it and fired it in my Skutt kiln. MAGIC happens in that kiln, I swear it. Before glazing, I added the word nourish to the back with French Dimensions as a reminder to not only put healthy things in our pet’s bodies but also to nourish their spirits. I think the more words we have surrounding us that uplift, the better!
And the heart on the bottom…
I messed it up a little in the firing process with the stilts but hey, I am still learning. I am mailing it to Tammy and Zing today with a few other goodies. I hope they LOVE it as much as I love them.
Using Duncan Ceramics (underglazes, bisque pieces, glazes, brushes, etc.) has taught me so much about patience and process. I am really loving getting more accomplished, learning and growing.
And now…the best part of all….Meet Zing, the newest addition to Tammy (and Dale)’s family.

Leave a comment and share your thoughts about this amazing story. I will randomly pick a winner from the comments and paint a custom ceramic piece for them that will also be imperfectly perfect. I will pick on June 10th, my birthday. It is a gift I can give away. Yay!
