Our Girl Scout troop loves to make hand made cards to donate to the Ronald McDonald house. The family member of hospitalized children that temporarily live in the Ronald McDonald house love to be able to choose a card from the basket. They can use the cards to write back home or to thank the nurses. They might even choose a card to write a note to their child. These cards are really special because they have stickers in them that were created by the Girl Scouts and made on the Xyron Creative Station. This way the recipient get a card and a fun sticker to put on something special. This post is sponsored by Xyron but the ideas and opinions are my own.
To make these cards, you will need the following supplies:
- Blank Fold Over Notes and Envelopes
- Xyron Creative Station
- Paper Crafting Supplies (Washi Tape, Buttons, Die-Cuts, Etc.)
- Xyron Mega Runner or Tape Runner
- Expressionery Custom Stamp for Girl Scout Troop
I think it is best to put the supplies out and let the girls decide how they want to design their cards. If your troop is younger, you might want to create a sample or two for them to follow. The younger the girls, the simpler you want to keep the project so you might not put out as many supplies. Stamp the back of the notes first (or write made by Troop @#$%) on the back. It is hard to do this once embellishments have been put on the fronts.
Decorate the fronts of the cards. The most common themes that are chosen are ones that have the following themes:
- Thank You
- Feel Better
Here are some darling ones that could easily be recreated using my Sweet Shop dies that I designed for Ellison Education and Sizzix. I LOVE that they all have matching little stickers.
To make your stickers, use the Creative Station. I explained how it works a few posts back when I shared how to make I AM journals. After you run your designs through the Creative Station, cut them apart. Tuck a sticker inside each card. You can use a little bit of tape from the tape runner to make it stay in place.
If you are a troop that makes lots of stuff, I highly recommend the Xyron Permanent Adhesive Mega Runner. You can buy refills for them!
Contact your local Ronald McDonald house to find out if they would be willing to put a basket of cards out for their families. I bet they would be thrilled.
Cheers to Hand Made Cards that Make a Difference,
