I love the idea of magic and rainbows and love that never ends. This summer I have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with kids in creative workshops and am amazed at how much they love rainbows too (and unicorns!). In one of the classes a kiddo made a rainbow to put in a potted plant. We were talking and she informed me that it would make the flowers always be filled with magic. I was inspired so I created a little DIY clay rainbow garden of my own with Bake Shop clay. This post is sponsored by Sculpey but the ideas and opinions are my own.
Bake Shop clay is awesome for kids (and big kids like me) because it is really easy to work with. The clay starts out pretty soft but with just a little time in a hand being played with, it becomes totally simple to mold.
To make the rainbow, roll out snakes with each color of clay. Press them together then form into the shape of a rainbow
Cut the ends of the rainbow with the little knife tool that comes in the Bake Shop set. Make a couple of clouds from white Bake Shop. Use the leftover rainbow colors to create a couple of flowers. To make the tall one, I rolled up the part I cut off from the rainbow. Insert wood sticks or skewers into each piece, two for the rainbow (one in each end)
Put the pieces on a baking sheet. This mini one is so perfect for clay. It came in a kid baking set that we never used until we discovered how great it was with clay! Bake following the directions that come in the packaging.
Once the pieces are baked and completely cooled, add them to a flower put filled with dirt and greenery to create a rainbow garden. Ta Da!
This little rainbow flower is my favorite piece. It was made with balls of clay that got smashed flat then stacked up.
I think working with kids is awesome and fun. I love being inspired by someone decades younger than me. May we all be so lucky as to be surrounded by creative little people who remind us that magic exists.
