Easy Sew Kindness Pockets

February is National Kindness Month.   I think every month should be filled with kindness, both planned and random.  These easy sew kindness pockets are a great way to whip up some darling little pouches to fill with things that spread cheer.  You can fill the pockets with little treats and messages that will share with others a spark of kindness to brighten any day.  They are made with leftover fabric, felt and basic sewing skills.  This post is sponsored by Nancy’s Notions (my favorite place to get sewing supplies) but the ideas are my own.  I am personally a huge fan of easy sew kindness pockets for teaching the value of giving and love.

Kindness Pockets Easy Sew Pouches

Here is the list of supplies you will need to make easy sew kindness pockets.

  • Sewing Machine
  • Fabric Scissors
  • Charming Charlies Template or Rotary Circle Cutter
  • Straight Pins
  • Fabric
  • Felt
  • Ribbon
  • Key Rings
  • Plastic Snaps

Okay, let’s make some!  Use the Charming Circles template to cut out four circles, two from fabric and two from felt.  Cut one of the fabric and one of the felt circles in half.

Cut out a small heart in a corresponding fabric.  Pin it to the full fabric circle about 1/2 inch from the edge.

Sew the heart to the fabric using a zig-zag stitch.

Sew the two complete circles together with the outsides facing each other, leaving a small opening for flipping (like a pillow)

Flip the sewn together circle right-side out and stitch the opening closed.

Do the same for the half circle.  Then lay the half circle on top of the full circle.

Pin the pieces together, adding a 9 inch piece of ribbon with a key ring through it.

Sew a zig-zag stitch around the entire outside of the circle.  This will attach the pocket and the key ring while creating a finished look.

Add plastic snaps to make your easy sew kindness pockets close.  Fill them with goodies and they are ready.

I love using my fabric scraps for projects like this.

This one is my favorite!  With these darling pens and little pad of paper, you could write kindness messages galore.

What would you put in an easy sew kindness pocket?

Cheers to Giving,

Laura
