Let’s recycle that lone piece of clothing and make a DIY sock gnome.
Tis the season for handmade. This sock gnome is super easy to make and creates a darling gift that can be used to decorate the Christmas tree or given as a gift. I have TONS of socks so could really make dozes of these cuties. What makes this gnome project so special is the chiffon ribbon yarn used from Darn Good Yarn. It is so gorgeous and fun to work with. Okay, let’s gather supplies.
You will need the following:
- Chiffon Ribbon Yarn (Christmas colors for hat and nuetrals for beard/nose)
- Sock
- Poly-Fil Stuffing
- Needle and Thread
- Craft Glue
- Small Roundish Object
Let’s make it!
Start by cutting 8-9 inches from the center of a sock.
Tie four pieces (12 inches in length each) around the top of the sock to create the tip of the gnome’s hat.
Stuff the bottom half of the sock leaving the top part (the hat) to be floppy and sew closed.
Wrap a neutral color of chiffon ribbon yarn around something four inches wide about 12 times then tie a piece of ribbon loosely through it to gather the wraps. Slide the loops off at one time and stitch to the stuffed sock through the tied piece to create a beard.
Cover a small object (cork, button, ball) with a darker neutral color of chiffon yarn and glue to gnome to create the nose.
Stitch a loop of chiffon yarn to the back to create a hanger for your DIY sock gnome ornament. Hang him on the tree!
